One organization based in British Columbia, the BC Road Racing Series, promotes wheelchair racing through organized events both on the road and on the track. Organized wheelchair racing makes efforts to accommodate athletes with varying levels of disabilities competing against one another and provides for classifications based on the amount of physical impairment a particular athlete has. A racing wheelchair has three wheels with an extended mainframe connecting to the front wheel. The rider sits between the two rear wheels of the racing wheelchair and uses his body to assist in steering.
